What is the Public Service Commission?
The Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) consists of five elected officials who are tasked with ensuring that consumers receive safe, reliable, and reasonably priced electric, natural gas, and telecommunications services. Their decisions affect how much people pay for these services and can have lasting impact on the public.
The PSC makes decisions about the rates service providers can charge customers, especially Georgia Power, the state’s energy monopoly. They are also the “last hope of many Georgia consumers in resolving their problems with utilities regulated by the Commission,” which emphasizes the impact the PSC has on everyday working class families across Georgia.
The PSC has five districts and a commissioner over each district. They are:

Jason Shaw

Tim Echols

Fitz Johnson

Bubba McDonald

Tricia Pridemore
Who decides who becomes a Public Service Commissioner?
You do, along with everyone else in Georgia when you vote! Commissioners are on the ballot every two years and elected to six year terms. The next election for a PSC seat is in November 2022.
